Have just finished my story 'Daivadana' and sent it off to one of my crit groups I was extremely suprised me to find a news item appear this morning.
My story is set in the city of Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Getting information on the country and town isn't easy. It is still laregly a third-world country and it isn't exactly wired for the web. Research on the city was difficult and largely consisted of me creating the look and feel of the place through seeing photographs. There is a bit on the history of the place up to the Civil Wars in the 90s, but not much after that. My vision of the city, its people, and the religous aspects of the place were largely invented for the sake of the tale.
How suprised, and disconcerted, am I then to read the following headline on the web this morning?
Tajikistan launches campaign against witchcraft.

There really IS a growing trade in sorcery and witchcraft in Tajikistan! And the Government wants it stamped out!
It really scares me that, whenever I finish writing a story that has grown in my head, this sort of thing always seems to happen.
I'm feeling a little freaked out right now.

Now, I am EVEN MORE freaked out!
