Afternoon from hell.
May. 28th, 2007 10:27 pmIsn't it wonderful when the guy in the 4WD in front of you gets annoyed with he the girl in the car beside him - because she had to nerve to beep her horn when he did something wrong - and the he tries to run her of the road? And then, when I react and beep my horn - a "Hey! Watch out!" beep - he decides to take it out on me!
The long shot of it? He really did try to run me off the road. I passed him in another lane but then he overtook me on a bridge. He really flew past - I could actually hear his daughter in the passenger seat shouting "No Dad! Stop!" - and then he swerved across the lane in front of me just in time to slam on his brakes.
I slammed on my own brakes, tried to get out of the road, but it was too late. The front of my car is a crumpled mess. He was just going to drive off! Said it was all my fault because I'd run into him from behind. True, I know the law, but I think this is an exception to that generality. So, I started calling the police. Then he suddenly changed his mind and decided to supply his details and hang around. Funny the effect a call to the cops can have.
So the cops turned up. We gave our statements. Then they towed my car away and me, and my two boys, walked the rest of the way home. Wait days for some sort of investigation. Who knows what will come of it. My word against his, I guess.
When I spoke to NRMA when I got home, they said the initial assessment is the car isn't repairable. They haven't really had a good look yet, but that's their first guess.
Great! My car is insured, but barely. The money would never buy us anything new though. Or even anything decent as a 2nd hand vehicle. I'm self employed and only have 1yrs worth of Tax returns so far. My wife has only been in her current position for less than 6mths. I've got two kids who go to school 3kms away... and I've got no car.
Oh, and I've woke up this morning with the beginnings of a really shitty cold, and a cracked tooth that is boring pain into my sinuses. A dentist appointment couldn't be made until next week.
Oh joy, oh joy! What a week this is going to be.
